After graduating with honors from Escanaba High School in 1985, I went
on to graduate cum laude from Central Michigan University with a bachelor's
degree in elementary education and an endorsement to teach students with mental
or cognitive impairments. From 1990-1995, I taught students with severe impairments
at the Rudyard Service Center for the Eastern Upper Peninsula
Intermediate School District. In 1995, I was asked to work for Rudyard Area
Schools as their 6th-8th grade resource room teacher. Finding that we missed
the Delta County area, we moved home in 1998 and I began working for Gladstone Middle School as a 6-8th grade
special education teacher. In 2000, I earned my Master's degree in Education
with an emphasis on learning disabilities from Northern Michigan University.
I have been married to Gary LaMarche of Gladstone since 1987. We have two children, Christopher and Cassandra who both graduated from Gladstone (2010 and 2013 respectively). Chris graduated from Michigan State University, Lyman Briggs College in May of 2014 with degrees in microbiology and genetics with an emphasis in science policy. Prior to graduation, he filed paperwork to run for State Senator and at just 22 years old, lost his primary challenge by just 0.6%. Cassandra currently attends Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University and is majoring in physiology. We make our home in Gladstone.
Dream big! Believe in yourself! I have very high expectations for my students and myself. I believe that we are held back from being the best we can be only due to our own fears and self-doubt. The following is my favorite quote. I heard it first on my favorite movie "The Ron Clark Story".
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond imagination. It is our light more than our darkness which scares us. We ask ourselves – who are we to be brilliant, beautiful, talented, and fabulous. But honestly, who are you to not be so?
You are a child of God, small games do not work in this world. For those around us to feel peace, it is not example to make ourselves small. We were born to express the glory of god that lives in us. It is not in some of us, it is in all of us. While we allow our light to shine, we unconsciously give permission for others to do the same. When we liberate ourselves from our own fears, simply our presence may liberate others."
